Recently I was contacted with an email that said “Congratulations Sean!! You just won…”. Yeah ok… sure, I thought. I ALMOST deleted the email. I’m so glad that I didn’t.
Matthew from an up and coming company called Gear Focus had emailed me to legitimately tell me that I was the winner in a nationwide contest of over 46,000 entries. You read that right… 46k! After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I was pretty taken back by the reality of it all. I had never won anything before.
This prize included the Canon 6D Mark II with a Canon 24-105mm f/4 lens, a battery grip and 128GB SD memory card. If all of that confuses you, just know that it was over a $2,800 prize!!
I’m a wedding and portrait photographer and I use this very same camera body but my backup was its predecessor, the original Canon 6D (which is a super capable camera) but I was really hoping to trade it in for another 6D Mark II so both of my cameras were the same. This is something that makes a difference with a fast-paced day like a wedding. So for me, this was the best possible situation. Not to mention that I had sold my Canon 24-105 lens years ago and always wanted to have it back for a general-purpose lens, which is what it is.
The only real downside of all of this is now that I have a little more gear… I need another bag. Well, that’s not going to be cheap!
Gear Focus will be launching soon and it’s an online market for buying new and used camera gear. I can’t wait to check out their business in full swing!
A big THANK YOU to Matt Baron and his team over at Gear Focus!
